Ecologies of Liberation

Ecologies of Liberation:
Field Gatherings for Radical Imagination & Collective Action

Thinking with the living world. Imagining beyond domination. Practicing new worlds.

What might lichens, fungi, rivers, and the countless other beings of the animate world awaken in our imaginations about liberation and the worlds we might cultivate together?

Ecologies of Liberation is an emerging constellation of gatherings,
creative experiments, and collective inquiries weaving ecological intimacy, liberatory imagination, practices of solidarity, and cultural transformation.

Rooted in liberatory values and anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist, anti-fascist, abolitionist, and decolonial commitments, these gatherings invite us to encounter the animate web of life more intimately while challenging the harmful systems that shape our relationships with land, one another, and the more-than-human world.

We’re not looking to nature for perfect political blueprints. We’re gathering to think, feel, and play with the living world, compost inherited stories, nourish radical imagination, and cultivate tangible practices of liberatory culture.

Together, we’re practicing the other possible worlds we can already feel in our bones.

Part ecological exploration.

Part liberatory imagination laboratory.

Part community-building experiment.

UPCOMING GATHERINGS & EXPERIMENTS

Lichens & Liberation: A Gathering in Symbiosis and Solidarity

Wander among the lichen people and discover their extraordinary ways of living together. Through wonder, creative exploration, and collective inquiry, we’ll imagine new possibilities for interdependence, solidarity, and liberation.

Lichens are remarkable composite beings, formed through intimate associations between fungi and photosynthetic partners, including algae or cyanobacteria. Their complex relationships challenge our assumptions about individuality, cooperation, dependence, and survival. What might their strange symbioses awaken in our imaginations about living together?

Fungi & Anti-Fascism: An Underground Gathering in Fungal Wonder & Collective Resistance

Enter the extraordinary world of fungi, where underground networks, radical diversity, decomposition, and surprising relationships invite us to question the myths of isolation, hierarchy, and domination.

THE APPROACH
Encounter → THRUM Circles → Collaboration
ENCOUNTER | Meeting with the Living World

We begin by slowing down, getting curious, and meeting the more-than-human beings among us. Through ecological exploration, sensory immersion, and playful experimentation, we deepen our relationships with the living world and challenge familiar assumptions.

THRUM CIRCLES | Collective Inquiry & Imagination

We gather to wonder, question, share, and listen. Through facilitated conversations, intention walks, witnessing, and mirroring, we explore the entanglements of ecology, power, resistance, and liberation. Not to arrive at easy answers, but to expand our collective imaginations.

COLLABORATION | Practicing Possible Worlds

We move from inquiry into creation. Through nature-inspired art, shared resources, mutual aid, and co-creative experiments, we cultivate tangible expressions of solidarity and seeds of collaboration that can travel beyond the gathering.

Solidarity in Practice
We don’t want our gatherings to end at inspiration. A portion of registration revenue from each gathering flows toward grassroots struggles, mutual aid, or community liberation efforts. Together, participants collectively help determine where the resources go, while exploring and sharing other ways to cultivate solidarity beyond funds.

Come curious. Bring your questions, your creativity, and your longing for worlds beyond Empire.

More ecologies are sporulating…

Colors of Resistance is taking shape as a hands-on exploration of natural dyeing, ecological relationships, art as a form of resistance, and collective imagination.

More gatherings, experiments, and collaborations will emerge from curiosity, community, and the relationships we cultivate along the way.

Want to Collaborate?

Ecologies of Liberation is a living experiment. If you’re a local naturalist, artist, organizer, educator, or curious co-conspirator with an idea for a gathering or creative collaboration, I’d love to hear from you. thrum@wildnatureheart.com
